Montreal

A generative abstraction of the past. In this series I'm blending physical and digital textures while playing with color palettes that reminds me of my younger days in Montreal. Each pieces contains a personal anecdote that can be found in the HTML header of each inscriptions.

About this series

A city remembered through its textures.

Montreal began with an exploration of generative textures. Wear, stains, and marks brought back memories of old hockey socks, opening a path toward other places and moments from my life.

The series developed through restrained palettes and compositions, with personal writing embedded in each inscription. Together, the images and notes form a record of the city as I remember it.

A personal map

Each title points to a place and a period of life. De Sève is dedicated to my mother; Rue Cuvillier recalls my first apartment with my partner. Le Belvédère is a tribute to friendships lasting more than thirty years.

The compositions use two or three colours, allowing texture and proportion to carry the feeling of each memory. The writing inside the works gives those abstract surfaces a personal context.

Montreal at Suburbs Gallery

August 2025 · Solo Highlight · Curated by Gamma

The series returned to the city of its memories for a solo presentation at Suburbs Gallery. Across the gallery’s screens, the works could be seen together: distinct palettes and compositions sharing a language of worn surfaces.

Artist’s notes

This one is for all the years I spent working in hospitality as a restaurant waiter. I had an epic time I'm not gonna lie. I met all kind of people, made great acquitances and friendships. I felt free as bird, I still do btw ;). You know between 11-20yrs old I was mostly working physical job on summer/weekends like at my mom's company, or landscaping, or concret and bunch of other things. From 17-20 I did other things that I'm not gonna talk about. But at 20, when I started playing music it was like a new life begun for me. I wanted to live. Meet new people, experiment, travel. So I started working in hospitality. Made good money (mostly from tips), and with flexible hours it was perfect for my lifestyle at the time. I was able to spend endless hours making music (and painting occasionally), while paying my bills and partying! Hier encore j'avais 20 ans.- FNST
